Solution: The factory changed the gauge of some of the wires between the connectors CN616 G Board and CN1716 D Board. The cables were cut and the new gauge wires were added to the wire harness connectors. Units produced after the serial numbers, see chart below, will not contain these cut wires since the connector comes with the new gauge wire. Check IC1704 or IC1705 on the D Board for cold solder joints and resolder as necessary. 2. Confirm that sufficient Silicone Grease has been applied between ICs (IC1704,IC1705) and heat sink. More Silicone Grease will help dissipate heat thereby allowing IC to operate at a reduced and controlled temperature. Silicone grease, Part number 7-662-006-02 is available from National Parts Center. 3. Confirm Metal clips are holding down ICs and adhere closely to heat sink.If Metal clips have became weak, please replaced it with part number 4-393-401-01 or 4-393-401-11. Solution: Sony is using unique Digital control technology (I.C Bus system) starting from ‘92 Projection TV (AP Chassis). The models listed above do not have VRs (Variable Resistor) for Registration (Convergence) control. All adjustments are controlled by Micro chip and data is stored in the Memory IC. If M board is replaced, adjustment settings will be lost. Therefore, We would like to recommend the following solutions: When replacing M board, swap Memory IC from original board to replacement board. Model Reference of Memory IC KP-41T15, 46S15, 53S15 IC 003 (ST24C04) KP-46V25, 53V25 KP-61V25, 53XBR45 IC3002 (X24C04) KP-61XBR48 OR The replacement M board contains default data, it is not adjusted by factory. Therefore, If possible manually copy all adjustment data from the Memory IC by Service mode. Then, enter original data into replacement M board. In either case, the unit will require touch up registration after the above solutions implemented. Note: The above procedure applies specifically to the listed models. However, the same concept applies to all Sony Direct View TVs equipped with I.C Bus technology. Adjustment data is stored in the Memory IC. Please find Memory IC location in the Service Manual and try above solutions. Reference: D. Solution: Q1801 (stand by regulator on the D board) was replaced during early production with a metal tap type transistor 2SD1135-C). Although this transistor is not connected to a heat sink it is mounted next to IC1801’s heat sink. Because of it’s closeness to the IC1801 heat sink the metal tap may touch the heat sink. If this should occur remount Q1801 and add a dab of RTV (7-322-065-19) between the transistor and heat sink.
