Date: April 1, 1996 Symptom: (62) Certain discs may jam when being returned to the XA-10B magazine. This problem may cause error codes to appear on the controller's display, such as "E-99" or "RESET". The jamming may be caused by the rough edges found on some discs getting caught on the edge of a metal plate inside the magazine. Solution: If the customer's unit exhibits the above mentioned problems, replace the customer's XA-10B magazine with an improved type as shown below. Reference: M.E. Symptom: (13) The changer controller's display shows "FULL" when trying to enter disc titles, even though the customer has not yet entered the maximum of 110 disc titles. This occurs because some units did not have the factory-entered titles erased before they were shipped from the factory. Solution: Erase the factory-entered disc titles by using one of the procedures shown below. Procedure 1-Erasing all previously entered disc titles at once. Caution! This procedure will also erase titles entered by the customer. 1- Connect the changer to an "XR" type Unilink head unit (i.e. XR-U330). Do not use an XR-U770 or XR-U880. 2- Remove the disc magazine. 3- Place the "XR" head unit in the test mode by pressing the "4" key once, then the "5" key once, then press and hold the "1" key for more than 2 seconds. All segments of the LCD will light to indicate that the test mode has been entered. 4- Press the "CD" key (ERR-0010 will appear on the display). 5- Press the "FILE" key for more than 2 seconds (a beep will be heard). To confirm that all titles have been erased, use the following procedure: 1- Insert a magazine into the changer. 2- Press the "CD" key. 3- Press the "FILE" key for more than 2 seconds. 4- Press the "5" key while pressing the "SEL" key. The display should show "NO DATA". 5- Press the "FILE" key for more than 2 seconds. Sony Drive, Park Ridge, New Jersey 07656 CSA-14 Model: MDX-U1 No. 341 Subject: Skipping Or Will Not Read Discs Due To Road Date: November 18, 1994 Induced Vibrations. Symptom: (51) Road vibrations cause the unit to skip, or in some instances may cause the disc to be ejected, with the word "ERROR" appearing on the display. Solution: This problem may be caused by early versions of MD boards. If the customer complains of this problem, identify the version of IC514 mounted on the MD board. If the version is less than "uPD78136GF-031-3B9" replace the MD board. The new MD boards have the same part number as the originals, but are mounted with the improved version of IC514. If the customer's unit already contains version "uPD78136GF-031-3B9", use standard troubleshooting methods to correct the problem. Note 1: The boards being shipped from the National Parts Center are not factory adjusted, and therefore must have all adjustments performed as shown in the service manual. Note 2: The original MD board cannot be upgraded by changing IC514 to the improved version.
