Symptom: (**) Early production lens assemblies had flex cables which required that an insulating sheet (“LF Guard Sheet”) be attached to the VC board to prevent short circuits. Newer production lens assemblies have a different flex cable which does not require the LF guard sheet. Replacing the right cabinet assy. or CF6300 during repairs for other complaints may induce the problem of the button sticking, even if that is not the customer’s original complaint. Solution: When the customer complains that the “WIDE” button gets stuck, examine the control switch block CF6300 to see if a black 2 mm x 4 mm spacer is attached. If not, add the spacer as shown in the diagram. This problem should not occur when the last digit of the number stamped on the inside of the cabinet is “-2” or higher. When replacing the right cabinet assembly of which the last digit of the part number stamped on the inside is “-1”, make sure that a spacer is attached to CF6300 as shown in the diagram. The unit goes into Camera mode immediately upon inserting the battery, even though the power switch is not pressed. The unit is stuck in the Camera mode, even when the Play mode is selected. These conditions will occur if the camera was inadvertently left in the “Forced Camera-Power On” mode. Solution: Release the “Forced Camera-Power On” mode by using the following procedure. This procedure does not require any disassembly of the camera. 1- Connect the adjusting RM-95 and CPC-9 jig to the camera as shown on page 6-3 of the service manual. 2- Set the data on page 0, address 01, to 01 (releases write protect for page F). 3- Set the data on page F, address 10, to 00 (releases “Forced Camera-Power On” mode). 4- Set the data on page 0, address 01, to 00 (re-sets write protect for page F). 5- Remove the CPC-9 jig and adjusting RM-95, cycle the power and verify that the camera operates properly. When such a trouble occurs, it is suspected that the floppy drive head assembly is out of position. Solution: Correct the head assembly from “ out of position” by following the procedure described below. If the Mavica ;unit has a Serial number that is higher then the serial number listed below, the floppy drive is a new and improved drive MVC-FD5 S/N 60201 and higher MVC-FD7 S/N 99801 and higher 1. Remove the floppy drive from the MVC-FD5/FD7. 2. Check the removed floppy disk drive as follows. 2-1. Push in the recessed button gently using a pair of tweezers.(fig.1) Fig. 1 Continued Reference: pv-975083 PRINTED IN USA Camera/Camcorder Products Service Bulletin No. 472 2-2. Remove the front cover.(fig.2) Fig. 2 2-3 Then remove the top cover.(fig.3-1,3-2,3-3) Camera/Camcorder Products Service Bulletin No. 472 2-4. Confirm location of the pin that is visible from the side of the head carriage. Write down a reference mark to indicate the position of the the pin with respect to the 2-5. Push the head carriage in lateral direction so that the push-pin that has overridden the worm gear, is returned to the original position. (Be careful not to exert excessive force the carriage assemble.) Be careful not to exert force in a perpendicular direction. (fig.5) Camera/Camcorder Products Service Bulletin No. 472 2-6.Confirm that the pin position has changed. (fig.6) 2-7 Confirm that there is no play in the guide shaft in the rear of the drive. When the guide shaft does not return to the original position by the force of the spring, the unit is defective.(fig.7) 2-8 Confirm that the shutter of the disk insertion slot opens and closes normally, This illustration shows an example that the shutter is bent (ref. Figure below). (fig.8) Camera/Camcorder Products Service Bulletin No. 472 2-9. When the shutter is found bent correct it by gently bending the chassis back into proper position. (fig.9) 2-10. Attach the top cover, then the front cover. Check that the claws of the top cover are correctly engaged. (fig.10) 2-11. Perform functional check of Floppy drive unit with below procedures: 1) Install the drive back into the MVC-FD5/FD7. 2) Insert the check disks (+) and (-). Confirm that the test picture can be played back correctly. If an error message is again displayed , the Floppy drive unit is defective, and should be replaced. (fig.11) 3) When the previously described check disks are not available, use a commercially available disk. Shoot ordinary scenes and play it back by the MVC-FD5/FD7 itself and from personal computer. If an error message is again displayed, the floppy drive unit is defective and should be replaced. ************************************************************************ Sony Service Company Service Bulletin National Technical Services A Division of Sony Electronics Inc. When unit is opened and the FP588 Flexible board is exposed there may be an area on the FP588 cut from where the Floppy drive door spring is making contact and causing a short circuit( F002 should also be checked it may be open due to short circuit). Solution: Attach a piece of Black Electrical Tape to the FP588 Flexible Board ( ref. Fig.1 below) to protect the Flexible board from the door spring. When unit is disassembled the zoom slide lever is dislodged from zoom button insert. Because the PK-42 board is not tightly mounted in that area the board is able to move enough to cause dislodging of lever from botton insert in certain physically stressed situations. To resolve this problem place a adhesive foam pad (dimensions : 1 inch long x 1/2inch wide x 1/8 inch thick) in the corner of the PK-42 board on the opposite (or component side) side from the Zoom Slide Botton. This will hold the PK-42 and the zoom slide control tighter to the zoom button when unit is reassembled. Foam padding Sheet Part Number: 9-911-844-99 Cut proper size pad from this sheet.
