Sony Drive, Park Ridge, New Jersey 07656 CSV-3 Model: RM-95 No. 375 Subject: Ejecting camcorders using an RM-95 Date: July 18, 1995 Symptom: (**) There is currently no way a technician can eject a camcorder using an RM 95. This procedure will modify an existing RM-95, and allow a technician toeject some mechanisms with the cabinet’s function buttons removed. Solution: This modification will work on most of the “FX” model camcorders and some of the “TR” camcorders. As a rule, if the cabinet eject button is under a switch block assembles lid, the eject modification will not work for that model. This procedure allows the technician to eject the mechanism, of certain model camcorders, utilizing the RM-95 adjustment remote. The black button to the right of the VTR record button will now be used for mechanism eject. The VTR record function will be activated by pressing just the red record button, not the simultaneous red record and black safety button. Up to now there was the ability to operate most other functions of the camera, except for eject. The advantage to the technician in the field is, they will now have the ability to fully service the camcorder with the function button cabinet removed, thus allowing them to load and unload various test tapes. Procedure 1. Disassemble the RM-95 by removing the three rear cabinet screws. 2. Referring to the diagram, drill two holes, in the locations shown, on the PC board. NOTE: Holes should be drilled, from the IC (Reverse) side of the PC Board to prevent severing of lands. 3. Solder the Cathode of the diode, to pin 61 of IC 4 NOTE: Either one of these two diodes can be used for this procedure: 1) 8-719-404-46 (Diode code stamped “1A”) 2) 8-719-016-74 (Diode code stamped “1B”) 4. Cut the two lands shown in the diagram. 5. Scrape and tin the four cut junctions. 6. Using thin tone arm wire, jumper the two connections that go to the VTR record switch. 7. Run a jumper from the top land of the eject switch, to pin 16 of IC 4. 8. Run another jumper from the bottom land of the eject switch, to the anode of the diode.
