Grose PRINTED IN USA Computer Monitors Service Bulletin No. 223 R1 OVER CURRENT CONDITION DETECTION PROCEDURE 1. Connect the computer monitor AC input to an Isolated Variable AC power supply. Set the AC supply to 120 VAC. 2. Apply a flat field video input signal in Mode 7. Check the picture dimensions. 3. Vary the AC input power supply voltage from 120 VAC to 95 VAC. Check if the picture horizontal size gets smaller when the AC input level is decreased. CAUTION The following Steps require measuring signals in the active AC input circuits. These circuits include hazardous voltage levels. Use an oscilloscope with a Floating Ground. Use the Floating Ground method only with suitable equipment and careful procedures. Avoid body contact with conductive parts. 4. If the horizontal size is reduced in Step 3, then use a Floating Ground oscilloscope to measure the waveform at pin 7 of IC601. The peak voltage should be less than 0.8 volts. Refer to the following illustrations. Correct Waveform on Pin 7 of IC601 5. If the waveform exhibits a peak voltage greater than 1.0 volts, then over current protection will occur. Refer to the following illustration. CONT. EXPLANATION The "weld line" is an irregular flow of resin along a line that occurs during plastic molding. It leaves a trace of the structure joints that are unavoidable in plastic products. Sony's basic concept is to use no external coating on products. This allows recycling this product for environmental protection. We finely adjust our molding conditions to make the "weld lines" less noticeable. If the previous explanation does not satisfy the customer, then replace the Bezel assembly with a Special Coated assembly listed in the following tables. The replacement IC902 has been changed to an improved part. The type has changed from CXA8071P to CXA8071AP. The new part has a Horiz. Phase shift component from the old part. The following procedure will correct the Horiz. Phase shift caused by changing the IC902 type. Follow this procedure if the D Board or IC902 is replaced so that IC902 is changed from the old type to the new type. Please use the following procedure to set up the unit to the new IC902 part. 1. Access the D Board and replace IC902 with the new IC902 (CXA8071AP) part. Or, replace the D Board with a new assembly having the new IC902 (CXA8071AP) part. 2. Reassemble the unit. 3. Power up the unit and perform a long Reset. 4. Run the DAS System Ver. J4.5.2 or higher version for this model. 5. Select the "File" pulldown menu and then the "MPU Board" mode. 6. Follow the on screen instructions to download the MPU initialize data to the unit. 7. Perform any necessary geometry and white balance adjustments for this unit. 8. Verify correct unit operation at all preset timing modes. The set up procedure is completed.
