Desolder and lift pin 23 of IC601 from the land. IC601 is located on the Conductor side of the ESP Board. Connect a very fine vinyl jacketed copper wire from pin 23 of IC601 to the (either side) anode of D301, which is located on the main board. (See diagram below). Secure the wire to the board using a Speaker grill cushion. This may be because of environmental factors like temperature, humidity, or the battery itself. Solution: Add a Sub Chassis Assembly for stopping power draw when the voltage drops below 1.7volts. 2. Peel off a sheet from the rear side of Sub Chassis Assy and put it onto IC101. 3. Solder 3 wires of the Sub chassis assembly to each land or pin of Q522, L503 and IC504. The Black wire to the pin of Q552, Red Wire and White wire to lands of L503. Yellow and Purple wires to the lands of IC504. (see illustration for further details). 4. Arrange the Yellow wire, Purple wire and White wire to the lower side of L503 as shown in the drawing. Arrange Red and Black wires to the left side of IC101. Solution: Perform the Bad-Block check according to the following instructions. Note that the check method is different for each model. ICD-V21 Procedure: 1. Short the solder bridge of TAP701 (refer to S/M for location.) 2. Apply 3.0V to the battery terminals using a DC power supply. At this time “0” is shown on the display in at the number of messages instead of “00/00”. 3. Press the ERASE key once. When the indication “0” changes to “1”, the check procedure starts and will take approx. 10 –15 sec. to finish. When the check procedure completes, the result is shown as follows: If OK, LED turns ON. If already checked the LED quickly flashes in 0.5 sec intervals. (Note, this indication will not occur when replacing the Flash Memory IC). If NG: The LED will flash slowly in 1 sec intervals. 4. If test is OK, disconnect the DC power Supply and open the solder bridge at TAP 701. In case of an NG indication check System Control IC and Flash Memory IC and peripheral circuitry. Replace any defective components and re-test. ICD-30, ICD-50 Procedure: 1. Apply 1.5V to the battery terminals using a DC power supply. (It is not necessary to turn on S714.) 2. Once power is supplied, the check starts and continues for approx. 20 sec. 3. When the check complete, the results will be as follows: OK, only the backlight turns ON. NG, the green LED turns ON or the Red LED will flash or turn ON. 4. If test result is OK, press S501(reset). In case of an NG indication check System Control IC and Flash Memory IC and peripheral circuitry. Replace any defective components and re-test. Solution: Order the following parts: Required Equipment: 1. IBM compatible PC with Microsoft Windows 3.X, Windows 95, or Windows 98 installed. A soundcard with speakers. 2. RK-G64HG connecting cable (ICKITW1). 3. WAV LINK Software (ICKITW1). Procedure: 1. To load software insert the 3.5” floppy labeled No. 1 in drive A:, use the appropriate set of floppies for your O/S. Note: Load the Windows 95 software for PC’s running Windows 98 O/S. 2. From the RUN command line, type A:\SETUP then press ENTER (Follow the onscreen prompts to load files.) 3. Record a message on the ICD-70 under test. 4. Attach the 25 pin D connector of the RK-G64HG Connecting Cable to the PC’s parallel port. 5. Attach the 15 pin side of the RK-G64HG cable into the ICD-70’s I/O connector. The ICD-70’s LCD panel will display WAV LINK. Audio Products Service Bulletin No. 478 6. Click on START\PROGRAMS\ and click on the WAV LINK Icon (WIN 95/98). If using Windows 3.1 O/S double click on the WAV LINK icon in the WAV LINK Window. 7. Click on the CONNECT button in the on-screen menu options. 8. The software will search for the attached ICD-70 and display CONNECTED!, when located. If the search was not successful, a COMMUNICATION ERROR message will be displayed. In the event an error message is displayed, check your connections and try it again. 9. After connecting, the WAV LINK SOFTWARE screen will appear displaying a list of the messages found in the ICD-70 recorder. 10. Double clicking on the recorded test message (see step #3) displayed in the WAV LINK SOFTWARE screen will play that message through the ICD-70’s speaker. To download the ICD-70’s messages to the PC, click on the 1 FILE option and then SAVE to the default location. The saved messages can be played back as .WAV files through the PC’s soundcard and speakers. 11. When complete click the EXIT button on the WAV LINK SOFTWARE screen to exit the program.
