What changes were made to the SW? Solution: The following is a summary of software (SW) updates that have been released to the field. Each later version contains all of the changes of the previous versions ex. 1.56 will include all of the fixes of 1.23, 1.30, and 1.52. Also it is important to note that even though the version numbers have increased there are no hidden problems being fixed. Most of the version increases are for new models not yet released. Below is a summary of the main changes for the SW. DO NOT update SW unless your problem is described below as this typically will waste the customers time. To check the current version of Software in the set follow the procedure below: 1 Enter Service Mode: DISPLAY, 5, VOL +, POWER ON 2 Press JUMP once so that QM menu is displayed 3 Press 3 button 6 times so that the info on the top line states QM 0 6 Service 4 The SW version is listed under the ATSC Boot Diagnostics. IT IS NOT the LOADER version but the number listed for OS, BASE, SUPPORT, and APP. So as an example if the LOADER showed 1.6.4 and the OS, BASE etc showed 1.52 then the SW version is 1.52. The loader version is its own separate number independent of the SW version. 5 Once done checking the current version press the 6 button 6 times to return to the QM 0 0 screen then power cycle the unit to exit the service menu. SW ver 1.56 Release is to support hardware changes to the Q-Box assembly. This software is backward compatible to older hardware versions. SW ver 1.52 Customer or cable tech inserts the Cable Card and Cable Card Inserted is displayed on the screen. They press OK however they never receive the Cable Card and Host ID message. This may be caused by out of band interferences from a near by analog channel. This problem has only been reported in 4 small cities in the US and is a very minor issue. This version also fixed a few minor I-Link and Closed Caption issues on applicable models. SW ver 1.30 Sony of Canada Ltd. 115 Gordon Baker Road, Toronto, Ontario M2H-3R6 Technical Service - AVIT Service Bulletin With NO CableCard: After auto programming the television, the cable channels saved to the TV's memory can be lost. This can occur if the number of cable channels exceeds 511 and the TV has been turned off or the AC is removed. The Hide/Show menu can be grayed out as if there are no channels saved to the Channel Memory after auto programming. Running the auto program process again restores the channels, but after the TV is turned off or the AC is removed, the stored channels may become lost again. With Cable Card: After the TV is turned off or AC is removed, the user settings for channel Hide/Show or user channel labels may be lost if the number of cable channels exceeds 511. In this operation, the channel map is acquired from the cable company so can be recovered automatically. NOTE: If the customer is only missing a few channels the problem is most likely due to the programming of the Cable Card and NOT the TV. Only using the TV with a Terrestrial Antenna: Since the number of terrestrial channels will not exceed 511, this countermeasure won't apply in this case. NOTE: You will need at least a 16MB memory stick and a memory stick device to download and copy the software. Saving this software to an MS is no different than if you were saving it to a floppy. If you do not have a memory stick drive in your computer you can pick several cheap solutions from a local computer store. An example would be a USB mouse with a memory stick mouse. 1) Right click on the SW file sony_dtv_upgrade.d04 in bulletin posted “SOFTWARE FOR BULLETIN PTV-05-017”. 2) Click Save Target As... 3) Rename the file and make sure that the filename is saved as sony_dtv_upgrade.d04. 4) Select your Memory Stick drive to save the file in the ROOT directory of the Memory Stick. Make sure you have your memory stick is installed in the drive. 5) Click [Save]. File size is approx. 9 MB. 6) Once complete you can use the memory stick to update any of the TV's listed at the top of this bulletin by inserting the MS in the MS slot. NOTE: MAKE SURE THAT YOU LOAD THE SW TO THE ROOT DIRECTORY OF THE MS. IF YOU FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS ABOVE, IT WILL WORK FINE. NOTE: MAKE SURE THAT THE FILE NAME ON THE MS IS sony_dtv_upgrade.d04. SOMETIMES WHEN DOWNLOADING THE FILE, IT WILL PLACE THE BULLETIN NUMBER IN FRONT OF THE SOFTWARE NAME, EXAMPLE E27293704-sony_dtv_upgrade.d04. IF THIS HAPPENS DELETE THE E NUMBER PORTION.
